Coups in the Air!

It's been on the arir for weeks, with BBC predicting that a coup is imminent. My fears were assuaged by the fact that the PM had discussed with military leaders and assured the people that a coup would not occur. Thirty minutes ago, the BBC reported that the military chief of FIji, Frank Bainimarama, has threatened to overthrow the (what wikipedia tells me is a) democraticically elected government.
What is with Asia right now? First Thailand, now Fiji? Coincidence, perhaps? I mean, Asia has not been known for its coups recently, as far as I know. Is there something more fundamental in the air that is causing these coups?
